FAQs

What is the class size for your classes?

Our school can accommodate up to 24 students.

Are your classes for beginners?

Our classes are appropriate and welcoming to people of all abilities. Seasoned chefs and newbies alike will feel at home at Capital Cooks. No experience in the kitchen at all? No problem! Come and learn and have a great time, too.

What is the difference between a hands-on and demonstration class?

In a hands-on class, you will be working in groups or individually (depending on the class) to create menu items. The chef will lead you as you work through the recipes.
In a demonstration class, the chef will show you how it's done.
In both styles of class, you will get to eat or take home (depending on the menu) what is prepared.

Will we be eating the food that is cooked in class?

Yes! Our chefs work hard to prepare menus filled with delicious food. After it's all prepared, you will be served what's been cooked. In cake and cookie decorating classes, you will be given a box to carry your goodies home.

What kind of equipment is available in your kitchen?

Our kitchen is equipped with state-of-the-art equipment, including ovens, stoves, and other cooking appliances. We also have a range of specialized tools and equipment for pastry and baking courses.

Do you offer private events?

Yes, we offer private events for both children and adults. Hop over to the private events page for info!

What is your cancellation policy?

Can I bring my own alcohol to Capital Cooks?

No, we do not allow alcohol to be brought into the cooking school, as per NY State Law. We have a beer and wine license, and have an awesome collection of libations: both red, white and bubbly wine, and a curated collection of brews and cider.

What time should I arrive?

Please arrive about 15 minutes before the posted class start time. Please let us know if you will be arriving late. If you are going to be more than a few minutes late, you need to call our number at 518-810-8412 to notify us. We cannot guarantee you will be able to complete all the menu items.

What should I bring to class?

We have everything needed for class: aprons, knives and all the cooking supplies. Bring your appetite and curiosity and we'll see you there!
